Impact

Impact

A modular visual identity system that unified ION’s internal services team — Impact — under a cohesive brand umbrella while preserving the individuality of each sub-team. I designed the master lock-up and modular icons and built a SharePoint resource hub to surface team services clearly and consistently across the organization.

Challenge

The internal services group known as Impact was made up of several distinct teams with unique functions and offerings, but no unified visual presence. This made it difficult for employees across ION to quickly understand who the teams were, what they did, and how they could be engaged. The goal was to build an identity system that visually connected all the sub-teams while also enabling each to be recognizable and distinct within the larger ecosystem. Additionally, the team needed a central digital hub to serve as a single source of truth for service information and guidance.

Approach

Anchored the visual identity in existing ION brand elements — specifically the “nucleus” and “ions” — to create a master lock-up symbolizing a unified system comprised of connected parts.

  1. Deconstructed that master design into distinct modular icons for each sub-team, ensuring visual consistency while supporting individual identity.

  2. Designed and built a SharePoint resource hub that houses each team’s description, roles, and service guidance, making it easy for employees to discover and leverage Impact’s services.

  3. Partnered with internal stakeholders to align design decisions with organizational needs, ensuring both clarity and usability across audiences.

Outcome

The Impact visual identity system was enthusiastically adopted and continues to represent the internal services team. The modular design ensured that each sub-team felt recognized yet visually connected to the larger Impact brand. The SharePoint hub streamlined communication and reduced friction across departments by making it easy to understand what services were available and how to engage them. This project boosted both visibility and clarity for internal teams while strengthening the cohesion of ION’s support ecosystem.

Designing for internal systems requires balancing clarity, modularity, and usability — and this project sharpened my ability to do just that. By grounding the identity in strategic brand elements and pairing it with a functional digital hub, I was able to strengthen both visual cohesion and organizational understanding. Impact not only became an identity system — it became a resource that teams could rely on, navigate confidently, and return to when they needed support. This work reinforced how strategic design can clarify complexity, elevate internal perception, and empower teams to engage with services more effectively.
